Welcome to Durham
Choral Society
Durham Choral Society is a
mixed voice choir with over 130
members. We sing two major concerts a year in the prestigious setting of
Durham Cathedral. Our concerts have full orchestral accompaniment, and
professional soloists are brought in as required.

In addition, we combine with a top-class local brass band in
December to present a programme of Festive Music appropriate to the
Season, "Festive Brass with Voices". This usually takes place
in Elvet Methodist Church, Durham.
The repertoire of the Society is varied, including traditional
choral music such as Bach's B Minor Mass and Mozart's Requiem and works by
more modern composers such as Peter Maxwell Davis. We have also performed
specially commissioned works by new composers such as Durham born Will
Todd.
We're not afraid of a challenge, as shown by our recent performance of
Vaughan William's Sea Symphony and tackling Beethoven's Ninth.
Other activities include festive music, such as carol
singing in local Nursing Homes and Hospitals.
National Sing Day takes place in July, and each year a
section of the Choir travels to sing in the Royal Albert Hall as part of
the The Really Big Chorus.
We welcome new voices to the choir each year - see 'Join the
Society' for more information. We'd particularly love more TENORS to
complement our splendid - and very beautiful - core. There is no audition - so come along and
try us out! OR, you might like to come along to Durham Cathedral for one
of our forthcoming concerts. Click HERE for more details. |
