of history?
Can we interest you in a piece of posterity?
In May 2004, DCS will perform a brand new work, written by local-turned-international composer Will Todd. Mostly funded by legacies from the late Lily Barker and Kenneth Craig, we are delighted to offer our audience and friends an opportunity to contribute to this special commission, which we hope will pass into standard choral repertoire.
If you would like to donate to the Gloria Commission Fund, receive a certificate of contribution and a listing in the concert programme, please contact, or print off the form below and return to, the Secretary.

Many notes and cards were received by DCS after the Gala and Gloria concert. It was clearly as emotive and emotional a performance for the audience as it was or the choir, orchestra and band members. Below is a small selection of the feedback.
"It was a memorable evening. What a fitting tribute to Lily and the other members of the Society... Will, who captured both aspects of the subject so vividly..."
"...especially for those of us with mining roots - an unforgettable evening..."
"I felt that I must write and tell you how much I enjoyed being a part of last night's concert... a truly memorable and emotional experience..."
"Although the CD will bring memories, it won't evoke the atmosphere. I nearly lost it myself when the banner was actually raised"
"Durham Choral Society... to be congratulated for commissioning the piece and for performing it so splendidly"
"Whilst my head is still filled with the sound of the glorious music of Sat. evening I would like to tell you that my family & I did enjoy the concert so very much."
Gala and Gloria Opus 29
Reviewed in The Journal, Newcastle, 24 May 2004 by Thomas Hall
“perhaps Todd's best work so far. His trademark ominously rumbling orchestrations pressing close upon the choir, giving way to radiant light for rhapsodic vocal solos. But perhaps most impressive, and moving, was the uniformed Riverside Band marching proudly under its banner along the Cathedral's length.”
